God’s Word

Last Sunday a missionary spoke at the church that we have been going to. He gave some very interesting numbers in regards to the work that needs to be done yet to get God's Word into very language. The task is huge. In 2008: 451 languages had an adequate Bible. 843 language groups had Scripture portions. 1185 language groups had an adequate New Testament. 2,393 language groups had nothing and still have nothing. In order to accomplish vision 2025, which is starting a Bible translation in every language that needs one, a new translation will have to be started every 3 days until the year 2025. The need for translators is huge but that is not the only need. Support personnel are a massive need. For every one translator on the field, 3 support people are needed to keep him or her there. It may be computer technicians, truck drivers, carpenters, or the one that is close to my heart, pilots and aviation mechanics, just to name a few. In Cameroon Africa 50% of the flights are turned down because the needed personnel are not available not to mention the shortage of needed aircraft.

Those figures hit very close to home for me. We have how many Bible translations sitting on our shelves at home when over 2000 people have never even heard it in their language? The fields are truly white unto harvest but will we answer the call to serve or support? What else can we invest our lives in that will last forever?? I don't believe everyone is called to be a Bible translator but I do believe that each one of us has a part. It might be praying, giving or possibly going. Many times we pray for God to send out laborers but we don't consider the question that God may be calling us to go. Are we open and willing to go if God calls?? God does the sending, our job is to be willing.

Here are a couple of links that you will enjoy. The first one is my friend Roger Krenzin telling about an air drop that he did. The second is called "When it has all been said and done." (Those of you that enjoy airplanes will enjoy it)
