It has been a busy last couple of weeks for us. Last week was EAA here in Oshkosh which meant lots (and lots) of airplanes down at the airport and lots of work for Andy for which we are grateful! We had the privilege of having one of the missionaries stay with us for the week. Tyler Schmidt is a young man who is currently working at the Spokane Turbine Center in Spokane, WA. He and his wife and son are also heading toward the foreign mission field as the Lord leads. It was such a blessing to have him in our home even though we only saw him briefly in the morning when he left and a little in the evening when he got home. We learned a lot in talking with him about his experiences growing up on the mission field.
I (Janelle) had a wonderful time working in the MASA (Missionary Aviation Support Association) tent for three days during the show helping to serve meals to all the missionaries that were there. I believe there were around 250 served at most meals. I was able to meet some really neat people and had some very encouraging conversations.
Probably the highlight of the week was being able to have Dennis and Patti Garretson in our home for a meal. They are a very neat missionary couple who have been like mentors to Andy during the last number of years as he has considered and prepared for missions.
Saturday, Andy and I were able to get out to the show and do some looking around ourselves. The most enjoyable part was getting to talk to several of the missionaries there. We were able to get a lot of questions answered as we try to make a final decision on who to go with. We have been sensing God's leading and feel that we were able to get some confirmations this week. There are still a lot of questions running through our heads and we are praying hard about a final decision. We so want it to be in God's timing and yet realize that we may need to just take the step of faith through what seems like the open door rather than trying to rationalize it all out ourselves right now. Please continue to pray with us as we are so needy at times. We really need God's wisdom. Pray for me that I will be an encouragement and true support to Andy as so much rests on his shoulders. Sometimes the road ahead looks daunting as we think about application to an organization and then raising support, but God is going before us and will prepare the way. Thanks for praying and we will keep you up to date as the time goes.
