Thanksgiving !
Thanksgiving. Is it just a day on the calendar, or is it more than just a day? We sit in our warm comfortable houses with our stomach’s full and wonder what we have to be thankful for. Most of us will admit that we have a lot to be thankful for but do we only think about it one per year? This attitude of thanksgiving should follow us through the whole year. As I sit here with a full stomach in a warm house I wonder how many children in the rest of the world have never had something as simple as a full meal. I don’t think that we realize how much that we have been blessed. The sad part is that we as Americans think sometimes that we deserve so many blessings that we have or we just take them for granted. We are afraid that these economic hard times may touch some of those blessings. Why are we afraid? Are we not going to be able to be thankful without all of those blessings? As Job said in the Old Testament, “God gives and God takes away.” In the remainder of this verse lies this attitude of thanksgiving that God wants displayed each day in our lives. It says even if things are taken away, “Blessed is the Name of the Lord”. Job had a heart that no matter what happened he was willing to trust the Lord with a heart that was thankful in all things. It is the old testament version of 1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. That is the true heart of trust and thanksgiving that God wants us to keep in our lives through the year in plenty or in little.
